Dave provided coaching to me over several sessions. These were carried out via video conferencing due to several factors outwith our control. At our first session Dave clarified the role of a coach, and we discussed goals for the upcoming sessions to gain clarity on my goals and point of focus during the sessions which was helpful. Dave kept me on track while working through some current leadership challenges helping me set realistic and measurable goals gaining clarity and insight from a fresh perspective. It was helpful that Dave had experience in the construction sector, but not essential to the sessions. Primarily it was Dave’s clear insight and direct approach that helped focus me on the goals and challenges ahead. Outwith the sessions we have kept contact due to Dave’s genuine interest in the development of people he contacts with. I would recommend a discussion with Dave if you are considering coaching and I will certainly look to work with him again in the future.
Over an eighteen month period Dave coached our project leadership team. His approach is to bring people together, strengthen relationships and collaboration, tighten alignment and intensity of focus and to hold the team to account for its commitments. This approach gave our leadership team the opportunity to come up for air, take stock, regroup and then press on together. The ensuing team effort was very powerful and our achievement remarkable. Our joint contractor and client leadership have been working with Dave for a while now and I would definitely recommend Dave to any major project. Whilst it is still early days Dave has been able to bring together a group of 10 individuals who have not worked together before and help them articulate their vision. The progress monitoring tool is really useful as it brings a hard measure to issues which can be difficult to measure. As a team of ex engineers that is really important that we can put a number to our performance. I am looking forward to our happy score improving. I first met Dave when he was still working for Wates in a Change Management role. Since then Dave has worked with myself for something like 12 years and helped to improve performance across the Costain Group. Initially Dave helped devise delivery of the hugely successful IBP Training Programme and was the only external person involved a programme that had a significant impact on Costain's performance. Since then, Dave's insights and ability to see the wider picture (based on his extensive knowledge of the industry) has been extremely helpful to both myself and the wider Costain. As a performance coach, Dave poses challenging questions that examine the purpose of what is being planned or done, and drills down to examine patterns of behaviours and what the business benefit that is trying to be achieved.
