What is maturity – it is a direction of change over out lifetime. But what changes – and by how much?
The received wisdom is that personality (as measured by psychometric questionnaires) does not change. Many believe it is baked into our DNA. However, there is increasing evidence that things do change and to understand this we need to be clearer about what we mean by ‘personality’, what psychometric questionnaires actually measure and to recognise that people are more adaptable both inwardly (changing their self-concept) and outwardly (changing their behaviour) than the traditional approach suggests.
