London-based Chartered Psychologist

I'm a Chartered Coaching Psychologist based in London, with over 20 years experience as a practitioner. My career to date has focused on helping people and organisations to make the most of their innate talent.

Wellbeing, Productivity, Interpersonal Effectiveness

My coaching practice focuses on three broad areas: wellbeing, productivity and interpersonal effectiveness. These three themes are mutually supporting and frequently intersect when people are stressed, approaching burnout or frustrated with other people.

Common topics I work on include:
- Dealing with pressure and stress
- Developing a sustainable and healthy working style
- Addressing challenges in work-life balance
- Adapting to new levels of seniority
- Dealing with procrastination
- Developing psychological flexibility
- Building resilience
- Managing difficult relationships
- Coping with significant business travel

Long game, not quick fixes
As a psychologist, I can bring all I know about the science of how people think, feel and behave to my practice as a coach. I stress the importance of self-awareness, application of personal values and the 'long game' - developing approaches to working like that can support us over many years, not 'quick fixes' that will harm us in the long run.

I use evidence-based approaches when coaching, shunning 'fads and fashions', while providing my coachees with the tools they need to be successful and maintain their wins, long after coaching has ended.

I have coached internationally (Europe, North America and Asia) and coached professionals at all organisation levels, from recent graduates all the way up to the c-suite. I have experience of coaching in a range of organisational sectors and contexts, including:
- CEOs
- Managing directors
- 'High potential' cohorts
- Heads of function
- Newly appointed managers
- Recent graduates

Varied services and sectors experience I've worked with clients in digital media, in financial services, in management consultancies, in the gaming industry, in R&D, in marketing, in analytics and insight, in the NHS, in government and in engineering contexts.

I mainly work face to face, in clients' offices or my own in London, but also provide coaching over longer distances via video.

I had a 6 month session with Richard after going through a challenging time at work. These sessions were focused and productive. They helped me identify what I really wanted out of work and gave me the tools to get there. Six months later later, I am doing work that I am excited about while maintaining a healthy work life balance. I would highly recommend him to any individual or organization looking to improve their work wellbeing. Charles Carrier, Data Science Product Manager

Richard coached me in preparation for me to take up a senior leadership role. Not only did the program fulfill my expectations of professional enrichment, the value-based framework taught by Richard has also helped me grow into a more resilient individual. The lens of values and purpose has since been benefiting me immensely. I highly recommend Richard's coaching programs. SS - Commodity manager

Richard helped me to identify my values which then guided my improved psychological flexibility, emotional strength and reinvigorated my self belief. Building on this, I became much more aware of my 'stressors' and could diffuse from situations so that they did not affect my productivity. He also helped me achieve my goal of being promoted to Marketing Manager within 6 months of working together. I highly recommend Richard. Laura Carey, Marketing Manager

I have worked with Richard a couple of times over the last few years and have found him to be a fantastic and very natural coach. He has assisted me greatly in my personal development as a leader. Dave Bird - National Sales Manager - Spirax Sarco

I worked with Richard over a 6month period in 2018. During this time he guided me in using my inner leadership skills & values and develop them into core managerial skills. Engaging with my own psychological flexibility & being considerate of a mindful approach I was able to break the boundaries between middle & upper management in my company. Following on from a very successful course with Richard, engaging with all the learnings I was promoted from a team manager to the CCO. I feel that my emotional intelligence has grown and grown and i can identify easily now my different core strengths and those I need to work on. I still feel that I am benefiting from working with Richard as I refer to the course workbooks over and over when I feel I need to re-engage with 'the programme'. I couldn't recommend Richard & his Management Development Programme enough. Thanks to all his direction I am a better leader & more qualified manager. Adele Curran - Chief Customer Officer

I worked with Richard as my coach across 2016/17 with my goal of being an “intrapreneur" who makes the business I’m taking care of sustainable. I want to innovate to surprise our audiences, foster people around a vision and multiply others’ talent. And in my business, there is a lot of passion and emotions, everything moves very fast and things change constantly. As I was gaining seniority, it was hard for me sometimes to keep a “cool head" when taking decisions. Thanks to Richard, I got way closer to achieving this goal! I became a better leader by clarifying my innate talent, managing my emotions better, understanding the complex system I’m working within and multiplying others to get their best. Richard provided me with tips and frameworks that help me navigate through this system better every day . There has been a before and after Richard for sure!

It's been an absolute pleasure to work with Richard as my first coaching experience. The work on values and managing emotions really helped me while I was taking on a new role. I highly recommend Richard, he is great at understanding individual challenges and coming up with frameworks that helped me finding the solutions by myself.

Richard worked with me to better deal with being a boss & deal with stress. He is relaxed in his manner but takes his work very seriously.

I worked with Richard over 6 month period to help me prepare to move from a Director level role to a COO role. During that time Richard helped me through a number or challenges, specifically with gaining confidence in moving away from tactical thinking, looking at real-time results and into a more strategic mindset where results typically take much longer. Additionally, Richard provided me with some great techniques to help me address my 'self-talk' and step outside my comfort-zone when working in larger groups. Being an introvert at heart, the time spent with Richard has helped me both professionally and personally. I highly recommend him as Executive Coach and look forward to working with him again in the future. ACC.

This was my first coaching experience, and well needed as I entered recently an executive role, involving interaction and influencing in an executive environment. I loved the practical approach that Richard is using, with simple applicable tips and tools, that you can use as triggers in the real life environment. I found it much more useful than theories that we can all agree and understand but may have difficulties to leverage in daily life. This coaching really made a difference for me, being much more comfortable in my role and interactions, with positive feedback regarding the way peers look at my leadership style and empowerment.
