About me

Executive Coach - London

I am a warm, compassionate and pragmatic coach who creates the conditions for deep insight, personal growth and professional transformation. My strength lies in bringing out the best in people.

I bring a grounded, evidence-informed approach to my coaching. With over 25 years’ experience as an applied psychologist and leader, having served as a Head of Service and Principal Psychologist in public service. I have led high-performing psychology services, specialist teachers and autism teams and am an experienced consultant.

I coach leaders navigating change, complexity or high-stakes situations, helping them stay grounded and present, think clearly, act strategically and lead with authenticity, clarity and confidence.

My coaching offers a safe, thoughtful and energising space to address key dilemmas, challenging personnel issues and self-limiting beliefs or behaviours.

As a trauma-informed practitioner and trainer, I can guide people safely and constructively through crisis, transition and life-changing circumstances.

I have extensive experience supporting exceptional individuals, including neurodiverse leaders, to deepen their self-knowledge and build their confidence and skills.

Areas of experience include:
– Leadership transitions – including promotion, onboarding and return from career breaks
– Building confidence and authority for female leaders
– Managing recruitment or redundancy processes
– Thriving at work while navigating complex circumstances at home (e.g., parenting challenges, bereavement, divorce, SEND)
– Performing under pressure – supporting resilience during change or in high-stakes roles
– Conflict resolution and improving collaboration – restoring effective working relationships
– Decision-making and communicating tough choices effectively

I hold an ILM Level 7 coaching qualification and psychology degrees from Oxford (BA), London (MSc) and a Doctorate from The Tavistock Centre/University of Essex.

Clients typically begin with a 4–6 month coaching engagement. Depending on needs, I offer longer-term work or ad-hoc support after the initial phase.

I offer free, no-obligation exploratory calls and chemistry meetings.

When I was Director of Women for Refugee Women, I had the pleasure of being coached by Barley for several months during a particularly challenging period. I was navigating difficult conversations while also planning my departure from the role and seeking clarity about my next steps. I was deeply impressed by Barley’s ability to listen with care and insight, and to offer support that was both practical and emotionally grounded. Over the course of our six months together, I felt increasingly confident and empowered to handle complex conversations, gained real clarity about the decisions I needed to make, and developed a clear, achievable plan for my future goals. Barley is a highly skilled, empathetic, and focused coach, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any leader seeking thoughtful guidance and support to achieve their ambitions.

Barley has been an exceptional coach over the last year - supporting me navigate the dynamics of being a CEO of a small charity; whilst working with complexity. I have appreciated the mix of both pragmatism and expansiveness to the sessions - I always go away feeling revived and can step back into the challenges of leadership.

Working with Barley over the last year has been transformative. She is warm, professional, and highly skilled, offering a flexible approach that gently holds space for reflection. Through her coaching, I’ve been able to consider important aspects of my life - professionally and personally - and make decisions that feel psychologically informed and aligned with my values. Over the last year I have navigated major life changes with confidence and clarity, which feels rare during such a period of transition. I’m deeply grateful for Barley’s support and look forward to continuing our work together. Dr Anna Lipscomb (Educational Psychologist)
