Coaching has always been a deeply human practice, grounded in reflective dialogue, psychological insight and the co-creation of meaning. But as generative AI introduces an always-available conversational layer, coaching is reaching a significant human–technology inflection point.

The question is no longer whether AI will influence coaching, but how intentionally we choose to shape its role.

This session with David Lane, explores where AI can genuinely add value — particularly around the coaching conversation, where structure, accessibility and continuity can help — and where human presence remains essential because meaning is complex. We’ll consider AI coaching not as a single chatbot, but as a portfolio of different applications, each bringing its own ethical considerations and responsibilities.

At the heart of the discussion is a deceptively simple question: What is the problem you are trying to solve for which you think AI is the answer?

From there, we’ll explore how accountability should follow the role AI is given, why ethics need to be designed into the service from the outset, and how we might harness technology without losing what makes coaching profoundly human.
