“One should have surveyed all the difficulties beforehand because people who inquire without first stating the difficulties are like those who do not know where they have to go.” – Physics, Aristotle
There are many competing visions of the future, in which dystopian or utopian outcomes are presented as inevitable. With AI advancing at an unprecedented pace, will human leaders become obsolete, or can technology enhance our leadership potential? In this thought-provoking lecture, Professor Rob Hornby challenges dystopian and utopian narratives, offering an alternative vision where humans are augmented, not replaced; empowered, not controlled.
Drawing on Aristotle’s theory of knowledge, Professor Hornby will explore the fundamental differences between human intelligence and AI, arguing that leadership demands uniquely human qualities—judgment, ethics, and emotional insight—that remain beyond the reach of machines. He will examine how AI can refine leadership, shifting its focus toward developing safe, powerful tools that support human flourishing rather than diminishing it.
