About me

I’m a highly qualified and experienced Coach and NLP Practitioner. I have been running my own successful coaching business since 2012. During my career, I have worked across all three sectors (private, public, voluntary) in a range of leadership roles, and have been coaching in some capacity during all that time. I enjoy working with people at all levels in business and with private individuals, whether you are at the top, on your way up, on your way out, starting up or stepping off.

I began my career as a Secretary at KPMG in London in 1986, moving quickly into a start-up role with a senior colleague, when we were invited to establish a dedicated HR department for the then London Corporate Tax Practice. Our focus at the time was recruitment into the growing tax function and during this period I obtained my CIPD qualification.

I have also worked as a PR Manager for a large social landlord, Head of External Comms for Thames Valley Police, a Business Systems Analyst, and finally as a Resource Manager with over 90 staff reporting indirectly to me. I enjoy variety and have an enduring fascination with systems, and in particular, the human system.

Intuitive Coaching Practice
"Meriel has a fantastic ability to ask the questions which get you to think differently. . . She is intuitive, straight talking and positively challenging. I walked out of a coaching session feeling like a different person - when actually, what she had managed to do, was bring me back to myself. I would recommend Meriel as a fantastic person to work with. You won’t regret it." Philippa Richards, Learning Business Partner NFU Mutual.

If you feel you are at some sort of crossroads, perhaps you worry about being found out (Imposter Syndrome), you have a degree in procrastination, your perfectionism is driving you to excess or your ‘my way or the highway’ isn’t working out for you, then I can help you.

I’m often contacted by clients who also want help with resolving conflict, working through grief, authentic leadership and releasing unwanted emotions. I work using a lot of intuition and at quite a deep emotional level. I would sometimes describe my coaching style as therapeutic, or systemic. I don't use particular models and want to mirror your style and create and hold a trusted space for you to step into and work within.

If any of this resonates and you would like to explore whether I am the right coach for you, call me on 07793 201323, email meriel@merielswain.co.uk or use the Send Message button below to contact me. I offer all my prospective clients a free and informal 30 minute consultation.

I have worked with Meriel over a period of 6 months and she has been fantastic. The time was spent discussing issues and areas of my life and role that were influencing my behaviors and decisions, and she was so helpful in understanding those items and giving me some tools to use in those situations and to help me with them when they reoccur. Meriel's therapeutic coaching style gave me a few moments of "wow" and left me really thinking deeply which has then led to some really positive 'space' to work with in work and generally in life. Meriel is a very approachable person and we got along from the first time we spoke. I couldn't recommend her highly enough - and have indeed done so to a number of colleagues. B.H.

Brilliant - listened, never judged, easy to talk too. Allowed me to really open up and talk about some very difficult issues knowing that this was in total confidence. Understood my issues and created a mind plan for me to gain balance, rational thinking and always gave me an alternative way of thinking about things - always turned everything into a positive and lifted my confidence when i questioned change in both my work life and home life. A.Burns - Senior Commercial Manager.

Meriel has been my coach for the last few years. Over this time I have found Meriel's coaching really helpful. Meriel for me has combined the ability to listen, and help me find the core reasoning for views and decisions, which has clearly allowed me to test my own thinking, beliefs and therefore improve as an individual and with business strategy. This has provided me with great support and provided a greater focus on a number of decisions that I have took and provides greater clarity. I can recommend Meriel as an excellent coach who can ensure you have belief in yourself and in the decisions you make. D. M.
